How I came to be involved with this web site.

At the end of June 2003, I came into contact with some people from the Interlock project and local youth groups.

I was very impressed with the work being done, and asked the pertinent question, "WHY do I not know about your work?"

It was explained that information had been in some BDC, and other, publications. But, the question still remained.

In talking to them about my personal site, TedAylward.com, it 'emerged' that it could be a good idea to have a Northlands Park

web site. For info, my CV is here.

No-one seemed to know of the existence of the 'official' web site! A matter of the right hand ……….. etc!

By a freakish coincidence, after getting an email from one of the people involved, I found the 'official' web site.

What should I do!? I decided to exercise my Puckish sense of humour, and tease them into contacting me & maybe push forward the launch of the 'official' web site.

Several people were aware of the launch of my web site, but no-one contacted me, and there was no perceptible move on the launch of the 'official' site. Taking the bull by the horns, I put an advert in the newsagent's window. That did it! Two people, one from Interlock/BDC and one from the 'Boiler House' project.

The current position is that we are, co-operating, and trying to decide how to go forward. As I see it, there are three options.

1. I close this site, and let the 'official' site be the only one.

2. Amalgamate the two sites with me as an 'ad hoc' advisor.

3. Continue the development of this site in parallel to (competition with?) the 'official' site. This would give a fully independent local voice to the residents, with no editing by officialdom. (Pressure can always be exerted when financing is at stake!)

As I am 70yo, and have had very, VERY, unpleasant experiences when being involved in tenants' associations, and other committees, my preference is to bow out and let the first option prevail.

Please let me know your thoughts. Can't guarantee that I will follow the majority's advice. As Oscar said, "The only thing to do with good advice, is to pass it on!"

I will make my final decision by Monday 28th July ………………….. me buffday! Until then I will continue.

I have received an email from a representative of the Northlands Park Neighbourhood Committee. See here (In MS Word format - my comments are in red) Use your back button to return.

Having a fresh look at the email from the web designer of the 'official' Northlands Park Neighbourhood web site, I thought about this statement.

Quote "One of the purposes of our Northlands Park Neighbourhood website is to collect views from the residents so that the Northlands Park Neighbourhood Committee can use this data to decide how best to spend the Government grants in order to make the area a better place to live." (My highlighting)

(I am withholding my comments until I see how things 'pan out'.)

29/07/03. Now done my 'Swan Song' See here.
